The Stars and Stripes Forever! was written in 1896 while Sousa was aboard ship from England to the United States. After I had looked for the meaning of the song, and couldnt find it anywhere I found this website. For my project one of the things I had to find was the meaning of the song. In Sousa's own words: "I wrote Semper fidelis one night while in tears, after my comrades of the Marine Corps had sung their famous hymn at Quantico."
